Project Description

Haus Rüschhaus (Rüschhaus house)

Haus Rüschhaus was where one of Germany’s most important female poets, Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797-1848), lived for 20 years. Her living room and study have been preserved unchanged. In her second creative period, and especially in 1840/41, she devoted herself above all to her homeland of Westphalia, with nature being the main subject of her work. She called her country house “snail shell” and wrote her most famous work there, “Die Judenbuche”. The outlying grounds and the spacious garden (French baroque garden) can be visited by the public during opening times. Visits to the indoor rooms of the Rüschhaus Museum are only possible by guided tour.
